when atheists believe

In recent years Great Britain’s chief export to the U.S. has been a payload of books by atheist authors such as evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins and literary critic Christopher Hitchens. They contend that faith is irrational in the face of modern science. Other prominent British atheists seem to be having second thoughts. Is there some revival sweeping England? No; they are examining the rationality of Christianity, the very beliefs Dawkins and others are so profitably engaging, but are coming to opposite conclusions.

Read When Atheists Believe by Chuck Colson

What does this tell us? People today have a caricatured view of Christians, seeing us as followers, often hypocritical and judgmental, of an outdated book of mere illusions. But if we can explain why Christianity is so reasonable, our faith becomes a very winsome proposition, which will at least open the mind, if not the heart, of many a doubter.

i think there’s a bird in my living room

I’m not supposed to be up typing this.

Apparently, right after dinner, I was overcome by that zzz monster. All those sleep debt accumulated during the trip had come back to haunt me! I gave in (rather willingly). I thought it was gonna be a one-hour nap, then I could wake up, continue with my unpacking and reply some mails.

I jerked awake at 5.50am.

My first thought: Has my sis gobbled up all the tim tams I brought from down under?! (She has not) Then: How many text messages have I ignored while I was concussed? (Only three, not too bad) Finally: Did I leave my bottle of ooloong tea in the freezer? (It’s as hard as a rock now)

After the first three random thoughts (two of which involved food), there was a whirl of mixed thoughts – thanksgiving points, meaningful conversations for the past two weeks, questions God asked recently, people I feel burdened for, expectations for the next breakthroughs for the church – all meshed up like some Cold Rock Ice Cream (that Mae expertly recreated in the last supper of the conference).

Right, obviously, this is not a most coherent post. All in all, I just want to declare that my Jesus has been the most absolutely fantabulously amazing Person in my life.

And as I lay down on my bed just talking to Him, I couldn’t help but to whisper again and again:

Be my everything.

why i am unstoppable

My name is shirls
And I am unstoppable

I don’t flirt with or date the church
I’m not infatuated with the church
I have no illusion that the church is perfect

What I have is a commitment to love God’s church
Not just with words but with my hands and feet
I’ll neither point finger nor look further for the answer’s in the mirror

I believe God’s not dead; He’s building the church he died for
A living miracle of a bunch of imperfect people loving imperfect people
I believe God has called us to build this church without walls

My name is shirls
I am a living stone of God’s church
And together we are unstoppable

urrrggghhhhhh!!!

God, you have stirred more things than my small heart could take.

I feel like I don’t have many pretty pictures to paint in this camp. Instead, my heart is filled with much holy discontent and agitation. What do I do with this!!

I asked him to show me his heart and when he did, I’m reduced to this state of brokenness. Seriously, shirls… What did you expect?! A vision of tellytubbies in lala land? What could possibly come out of looking at the lost world thru the eyes of a holy and compassionate God?!?

Unstoppable in 12 hours – and he just took my world by storm. Seriously, God, you can’t always do this to me!!!

*breathe*
